EA Volunteer Coordinator:

The Emergency Assistance program needs volunteers for the following positions at our 5 Denver metro EA sites.  Each EA site is open from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at least 3 days per week.

Receptionist: answer phones, set appointments and check clients in for both financial and food appointments.

Intake Specialist: conduct intakes for food and financial appointments - gather data and verify documentation for the clients. This position requires the use of a computer and multiple databases

Driver:  Pick up orders of food from Food Bank of the Rockies and other area restaurants and stores that donate food.  This position requires the use of your own vehicle.

Food Bank Specialist:  Take orders for food boxes, fill orders, stock shelves and other duties as needed.

  Samaritan House

All Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.

Volunteers are not needed on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.

Person needed to polish donation plaques-

Flexible schedule and supplies to be provided.

 

As needed:

1-2ppl are needed (Saturdays or Sundays) to help make food baskets. (This position is on-hold, 6.2009) 

 

Floor buffers are needed to shine up our floors! This is an on-going position. (IDEALLY either Saturday OR Sunday from 8am-12noon; however, scheduling is flexible)

 

Tour Guides: Ideal for existing volunteers who can serve 1-2x a month.

(1 person) 9am-11am on Mondays. You will be "shadowing" existing   volunteer-organizing & straightening.

Front Desk Volunteers

answer phones, help residents with mail/sack lunches, hand out supplies, assist with SH Orientation (at times)

Resource Advocate: (NEW 9.09)

5 volunteers needed one day per week from 7-8pm. (M-F): Duties: Assist residents in navigating the Resource Center and internet to find jobs, benefits, and housing. Supervisor-Joey Kerns: 303.996.6070.

Case Aide (additional training required)

3 hour shift: Daytime-Any day Monday through Saturday

Involves: Direct contact with residents and ability to elicit personal information from reluctant clients

Desirable Background: Nursing/mental health/social services, ideal for retired RN, counselor/therapist, etc

**Teachers Needed**

Involves teaching a class size of approx 3-20ppl for 30-60 minutes. Desirable background: History or interest in teaching, public speaking, or an applicable skill-set or knowledge-base. (As of 7.10.09--Ideal time: weekends, but can be negotiated)

We require that all volunteers who serve on the Family Floor are extremely reliable.

Currently, there is a need for volunteers on Mondays from 6-7pm, Wednesdays from 6-8, and Fridays from 6-8pm.  

 

St. Joseph's Veteran Center

All volunteers must be 16 years of age or older

 

Volunteers are needed to work with homeless veterans with varying degrees of mental and physical disabilities. Ideal candidates would be calm, patient, compassionate, and non-judgmental, but with excellent personal boundaries. A sense of humor is vital.

FATHER ED JUDY HOUSE 
Groups needed MONTHLY to come in and celebrate birthdays
Responsibilities include: bringing in games, small gifts, etc. and celebrate our youth! :)

1-2 MONTHLY volunteers needed with a pick-up truck or van to transport donated furniture from storage unit(s) to families in need.
After-school tutor. 

Weekday (M-Th) 4:00-5:30 pm.  A great opportunity to help a child shine in school.  Work individually with children on homework assignments or reading/writing practice.  Students range from elementary to high school, so there is always a variety.  This is a chance to work one-on-one with students and get to know them on an individual level. 

 Sunday night help with Play Connection group

Sunday nights 6:45-8:15 pm.  Assist with children while families attend a weekly Play Connection group.  This volunteer will attend the group with the families, and will help care for infants and toddlers so their mothers can be engaged with the group.  Play Connection is a group that encourages learning and growth through play.

Handy Person Opportunity

An individual to custom make drawers forbuilt-in wardrobes

Evening of Pampering

Evening of Pampering for our moms, to include: hair, nails, massage, acoustic music, etc. Great opportunity for massage school students who need hrs or beauticians who would like to share their skills

Adopt-a-Room

We are looking for groups of volunteers or families to "adopt" and decorate our individual family rooms in order to make them warm and inviting for families as they move-in. 9 rooms, from which to choose. Although the facility was recently painted, all rooms need curtains, many need rugs and other decorations.

Chicken Sundays (Bringing a Home-Cooked Meal to the Shelter)

Based loosely on the children's book by Patricia Polacco, Chicken Sunday is an opportunity for small groups or families to make a home-cooked dinner for the families at the Father Ed Judy House. Dinner starts at 5:00pm on Sundays and we would need volunteers from 4:45-6:45pm. We would ask groups to make a nutritious dinner for 20-30ppl. Groups could also do an activity, such as play soccer with the kids, after dinner. Chicken Sunday volunteers would need to work closely with shelter staff in order to plan the meal & activity.

Volunteer Mechanics

2 volunteer mechanics needed to assist with the maintenance of residental vechicles. Basic service to include oil changes, etc.

Catholic Charities Mulroy Senior Center has a lot to offer volunteers. You will have the chance to work with a diverse group of active, friendly, and fun seniors in a relaxed environment. Volunteer duties can be varied include some light food preparation, calling Bingo, helping to lead low-impact exercise, answering the phone, or picking up donations. Do you enjoy working with children? Make a difference in the life of a child (4th-6th grade) as a mentor/tutor/homework helper! Due to the nature of the work, we require that volunteers who serve in our program commit to 1 day (same day each week) per week, for one hour at a time (available times will fall between 9am-4pm on weekdays and will be determined in collaboration between the mentor and program coordinator) for a minimum of 1 year.   *Volunteers who serve as mentors/homework helpers must be 18 years of age or older and must participate in a background check.
