Catholic Charities Adult Services has many opportunities for volunteers to work with seniors.  We are looking people interested to work with active, friendly, and fun seniors in their homes to assist with: shopping, housekeeping, reading and writing, and overall companionship.  Contact the Volunteer Coordinator listed above for more information.

The Emergency Assistance program utilizes volunteers for the following positions at our two centers:

Receptionist:  Answer phones, set appointments, and check clients in for both financial and food appointments.
 
Intake Specialist:  Conduct intakes for food and financial appointments while gathering data and verify documentation for the clients. This position requires the use of a computer and multiple databases.
 
Driver: Pick up orders of food from Food Bank of the Rockies and other area restaurants and stores which donate food. This position requires the use of your own vehicle.
 
Food Bank specialist: Take orders for food boxes, fill orders, stock shelves, and other duties as needed.

  Samaritan House

All Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.

Volunteers are not needed on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.

 

Person needed to polish donation plaques-

Flexible schedule and supplies to be provided.

 

As needed:

1-2ppl are needed (Saturdays or Sundays) to help make food baskets. (ON HOLD AS OF 8.2010) 

 

Floor buffers are needed to shine up our floors! This is an on-going position. (IDEALLY either Saturday OR Sunday from 8am-12noon; however, scheduling is flexible)

 

Tour Guides: Ideal for existing volunteers who can serve 1-2x a month.

 

Table Companions

Sit and visit with residents while eating a meal

Also Needed:

1 volunteer to assist with administrative support, filing, light clerical work and assisting residents with computer use. 1 volunteer to teach basic computer skills. Days and hours flexible to meet the convenience of the volunteer.

(Currently, the ONLY need in our ERC is for basic computer skill teachers 8.2010)

 

 *Clothing Room volunteers 

(1 person weekly) 7-8pm on Monday, Friday, Sunday-

working with residents, distributing clothing and handling paperwork

 

Front Desk Volunteers

answer phones, help residents with mail/sack lunches, hand out supplies, assist with SH Orientation (at times)

Chore Supervisor:

(NEW August 2010)

Levels Coach (HUGE need-additional training required)
(1)-needed weekly (late afternoon/early evening)
Involves: Direct contact with residents -ability to act as both mentor and coach while guiding residents toward sustainable employment, mental perseverance and benefit acquisition
Requires: Attention to detail, dealing with facts, good personal boundaries 
 

Resource Advocate: (additional training required)

1 volunteer needed weekly: Tuesday (6:30-8pm) and Friday (6:00-8pm). Duties: Assist residents in navigating the Resource Center and internet to find jobs, benefits, and housing. Supervisor-Joey Kerns: 303.996.6070.

 

Case Aide (additional training required)

3 hour shift: Daytime-Any day Monday through Saturday

Involves: Direct contact with residents and ability to elicit personal information from reluctant clients

Desirable Background: Nursing/mental health/social services, ideal for retired RN, counselor/therapist, etc

(ON HOLD, AS OF 4.2010) 

 

**Teachers Needed**

Involves teaching a class size of approx 3-20ppl for 30-60 minutes. Desirable background: History or interest in teaching, public speaking, or an applicable skill-set or knowledge-base. (As of 7.10.09--Ideal time: weekends, but can be negotiated)

Family Floor/Playroom & Computer Lab:

Computer Lab, 6-7pm and Playroom 6-8pm (weekdays)

We require that all volunteers who serve on the Family Floor are extremely reliable.

Currently, there is a need for volunteers on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6-8pm

 

Certified First Aid/CPR/AED instructor to teach staff/volunteers at Samaritan House-approximately every 6 mths.

 

St. Joseph's Veteran Center

All volunteers must be 16 years of age or older

 

Volunteers are needed to work with homeless veterans with varying degrees of mental and physical disabilities. Ideal candidates would be calm, patient, compassionate, and non-judgmental, but with excellent personal boundaries. A sense of humor is vital.

MD or prescribing nurse to review & explain medications, their uses, side effects and proper dosages

Licensed electrician for minor repairs

Auto mechanic to teach basic & intermediate auto repair

Food inventory volunteer to help prepare weekly shopping list

Smoking cessation instructor

 

 

THE FATHER ED JUDY HOUSE 
The Father Ed Judy House is a small housing program for single women with children who are homeless. We depend on community volunteers to help us offer a rich, supportive program to the families we serve.

Catholic Charities Mulroy Senior Center has a lot to offer volunteers. You will have the chance to work with a diverse group of active, friendly, and fun seniors in a relaxed environment. Volunteer duties can be varied include some light food preparation, calling Bingo, helping to lead low-impact exercise, answering the phone, or picking up donations. Do you enjoy working with children? Make a difference in the life of a child (4th-6th grade) as a mentor/tutor/homework helper! Due to the nature of the work, we require that volunteers who serve in our program commit to 1 day (same day each week) per week, for one hour at a time (available times will fall between 9am-4pm on weekdays and will be determined in collaboration between the mentor and program coordinator) for a minimum of 1 year.   *Volunteers who serve as mentors/homework helpers must be 18 years of age or older and must participate in a background check.
